MRI
Los Angeles

Dr. Jamshid Maddahi utilizes the technology of a MRI in Los Angeles to create still and moving 3-D images that show plaque or blockage in the arteries and blood vessels. With this type of heart scanning, Dr. Maddahi can see how your blood flows through your heart, determine if your heart is injured by plaque build-up in the arteries, check valves and chambers, and check on prior surgeries on your heart. MRI is a non-invasive test — you don’t need an operation.

How Does It Work

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a type of medical imaging that uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the inside of the body. MRI can be used to assess the health of the heart and surrounding structures, including the arteries. MRI can assess the size and function of the heart and look for signs of heart disease, such as blockages in the arteries or valves that are not functioning properly.

Why Is It Done

A MRI in Los Angeles, can be used to evaluate many different aspects of cardiac (heart) health, including the size and shape of the heart, the thickness of the heart walls, the location, and severity of any scarring from prior heart attacks, the presence of any blockages in the heart’s blood vessels, and the function of the heart’s valves. MRI is often ordered when someone has symptoms of a heart problem, such as chest pain or shortness of breath.

What to Expect

MRI is typically performed on an outpatient basis and usually takes 30-60 minutes. During the procedure, you will lie on a table that slides into the tunnel-like MRI machine. You will be asked to hold very still during the exam, as even the slightest movement can affect the quality of the images. You may also be asked to wear earplugs or headphones to muffle the loud thumping and buzzing noises made by the machine.

You will be able to communicate with the technician performing the exam via intercom. If you begin to feel claustrophobic or anxious, let the technician know, so they can take a break or give you a sedative. After the MRI in Los Angeles is completed, the technician will help you off the table, and you can go home. Your doctor will review the MRI images and let you know the results.
